The Best Sports Lenses for when you buy a Nikon D5200

Although Nikon have kept the shutter speeds and only slightly increased the burst speed, when you buy the Nikon D5200, you will have a very competent sports body – in which case, there is no point having an outdated lens, is there? Here are some of the best Nikon sports lenses available at the moment – that would fit your new D5200 – to lust over…..

 

Nikon AF-S VR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED Lens

This is a high powered telephoto lens equivalent to 105-450mm on a Dx camera like the D5200. It has low dispersion glass for improved optical performance and can focus as close as 4.9ft through its entire range. The Silent wave Motor (SWM) enables quick and quiet AF for stills and video. The VRII system allows for up to a 4 stop advantage in lower light or at longer focal lengths. Internal Focus ensures you can focus without changing the length of the lens. It can be used it for sport, wildlife photos, distant landscapes and even for the occasional “macro” shot.

Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.8 G ED VR II Lens

This is also an FX  lens, which means that on the D5200, it will become a105-350mm lens. It is regarded as the best 70-200mm lens Nikon have produced. Every five years or so, they manage to improve on what seemed perfect already. The current model is the sharpest, fastest and most accurate tele-zoom around from Nikon. Again the VR function is robust and allows hand held pictures and ridiculously slow shutter speeds. This is the top Pro  lens for sport at the moment, so whilst hanging a new Nikon D5200 around your neck might give some people the impression that you are a bling photographer, you will receive genuine respect if you then pull this lens out of your bag.

Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 AF APO DG OS HSM Telephoto Zoom Lens

Designed for use with full frame digital SLR cameras. May also be used with cameras like the D5200 with a corresponding effective increase in focal length to about 255mm to 850mm on the Sigma SD format. Sigma’s OS System (Optical Stabilization) enables handheld photography even in low-light situations and its HSM (Hyper-Sonic Motor) ensures a quiet & high-speed auto focus. Minimum focusing distance is  7 feet with a maximum magnification of 1 to 5.2. Although this is a monster of a lens, it is quite compact, weighing only 4 pounds and extending to 10 inches in length.
